2017 Midyear Security Roundup: The Cost of Compromise

Earlier this month we launched our Security Roundup Report for the first half of the year. You can access the full report here, but here are some of the findings that stand out:

1 / Ransomware Reaches Peak With WannaCry and Petya

To give you an idea: up until now WannaCry has already infected 300,000 machines. Thousands of companies lost a total of no less than € 3.4 billion.

2 / Business Email Compromise Losses Reach € 4.4 Billion

From January till June we detected 3,000 BEC attempts. The average impact for each attempt is € 117,000 (compared to € 3,000 to 6,000 per ransomware  attempt).

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, global losses due to business email compromise (BEC) have reached € 4.4 billion, an increase of € 1.7 billion in only one year time.
