Banking malware steals money, but ransomware removes your past

For years hackers have been stealing documents from your machines. No matter what… hackers will always find a way to get in. But once they get in, their problems start: how to monetize the hacked device? Of course passwords, credit card and banking details are relatively easy to monetize.

But what about company documents like business plans or source code? Who wants to buy that? For this problem hackers found a solution: ransomware.

What would you do if you don’t have back-ups and all your family pictures are encrypted?

Ransomware surgically removes your past. Once it’s gone, you can never get it back.

Saving memories

At Trend Micro we have a internal website with daily statistics of which ransomware we’ve blocked. For me these aren’t just statistics. It’s a person’s memory or a business you actually saved. And that is a big motivator for me.
